GME
GME, Australia’s premier communications company will have plenty of new products on display at this year’s Darwin Boat Show. Products include the GME G-Series; this series includes a Chartplotter, Fishfinder and Combo unit, the G-Com handheld VHF radio and the GD9600 marine stereo system.
Firstly the G-Series; G-Combo, G-Plot and G-Fish units all present a high performance colour display in a popular space saving design. Any discerning user of a chartplotter or fishfinder will agree screen resolution and brightness are at the top of the feature list when purchasing a unit. This is why GME has opted for a high resolution 640 H x 480 W pixel, 5.6” (142mm) diagonal back lit TFT LCD display with night mode and 10 adjustable settings on all three models. The units can either be flushed into a dash or mounted on the simple to tilt and swivel bracket, which is supplied along with a sun cover.
With an easy to use menu structure and multiple screen options of which six configurations can be stored as your favourites, the G-Series allows you to get the best performance out of the unit quickly and easily. A snap shot function ensures you don’t miss a thing as this feature allows the display on the screen to be captured and saved to the units 128MB memory and then down- loaded onto an optional SD card for viewing on your PC.
A GME 2 year manufacturer’s warranty comes with each of the IPX7 rated units, to give you that additional piece of mind.
Secondly, GME will be exhibiting for the first time in Australia the all new G-Com GX660 hand held VHF radio. This unit has a waterproof rating of IPX7, floats, selectable output power of 5/1W, dual watch, scan and memory all in a robust easy to view and use design. The radio comes complete with a 12 volt charger, 1400mAh Li-Ion battery that will operate the unit when fully charged for 12 hours. GME also offer a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty on the radio.
Thirdly, GME, well known for its comprehensive range of marine entertainment will be launching their new GD9600 marine stereo system at the show. The GD9600 is similar to its predecessor the GR9200 series, however this unit is not only a CD/MP3/AM-FM radio but also a DVD player. It has the provision for an additional wired remote (RCU9200) and connection to an iPod via an additional auxiliary lead. Music and movies can also be played in compressed formats using the inbuilt USB and SD card slots. The GD9600 unit comes in 2 configurations one that can be bulk head mounted and the other with a fully enclosed housing and mounting bracket. Both units will be available in either black or white.

New G-Series Display range from GME
2010 has been a very busy year for GME, and their marine division is proud to announce the release of their new fully featured G-Series range of marine displays offering exceptional value to customers who are wanting either a Combination unit (Chartplotter/Fishfinder), GPS Chartplotter or standalone Fishfinder.
The G-Combo, G-Plot G-Fish units all present a high performance colour display in a popular space saving design. The units can either be flushed into a dash or mounted on the simple to tilt and swivel bracket which is supplied along with a sun cover.
The G-Plot and G-Combo have an inbuilt 16 channel GPS antenna with provision for an external antenna. Cartography is via the feature rich C-Map Max charts available on standard SD card. Both the Combo unit and Chartplotter can be purchased with or without a C-MAP Max Australia wide chart. Enhanced C-MAP Max features like dynamic nav-aids showing flashing beacons on the display, and quick chart information make orientation and navigation easy.
The excellent chartplotter specifications and features are enhanced by the use of digital fishfinder technology in the G Combo. Again GME elected to use the well known multi sensor Airmar P58 Triducer® combining depth, speed, and temperature functions in one housing. With 600 watt RMS power and true 50kHz and 200kHz dual frequency sonar you won’t miss any underwater activity. The G Fish has all the sonar capabilities of the Combo unit but as a standalone Fishfinder.
With an easy to use menu structure and multiple screen options of which six configurations can be stored as your favourites, the G-Series allows you to get the best performance out of the unit quickly and easily. A snap shot function ensures you don’t miss a thing, this feature allows the display on the screen to be captured and saved to the units 128MB memory and then downloaded onto an optional SD card for viewing on your PC.
A GME 2 year manufacturer’s warranty comes with each of the IPX7 rated units, to give you that additional piece of mind.
Stock of the new G-Series units will be available from GME stockists By mid November 2010.

NG Series Stress Free: Free-Fall Winch
Adelaide-based engineer, Dean Forster, the mastermind behind the development of the original drum-style anchor winch has enjoyed enormous success with his Original Stress Free, but always felt that the introduction of a free-fall model was warranted; a winch that would unspool a whole lot faster to enable more accurate positioning over small fishing grounds. It took him a while to come up with the NG series, but the wait was worthwhile. The release of the (Next Generation Stress Free) NG Series has taken the brand to a new level. The NG Series with – power up/power down and free-fall features – all done from the helm with no mechanical adjustments required to the winch makes anchoring a breeze and as the users say “Stress Free”.
The Stress Free is ideally suited for the recreational boat, where by design, the anchor well is small and the conventional gypsy type windlass struggles to function efficiently due to the compromised depth of the anchor well which must be a minimum of 500mm. The Stress Free only requires space for the winch, all of the rope and chain is contained on the drum, and as an example the Mini/NG Series Mini 500 which suits boats up to 6 meters requires a depth of 260mm for the winch to be neatly installed into the anchor well with no above deck mounts.
The NG Series has been designed to ensure there is no over-run as the anchor touches down on the seabed and also to eliminate the rope twist that plagues some other drum winches. The NG Series winch will freefall 5 times faster than the standard Stress Free can power down which is a real advantage when you fish in depths greater than 20 meters. It is the weight of the anchor, chain/rope pulling down that causes the drum to free-spool so once the anchor hits the seabed the drum will automatically stop which totally eliminates the risk of an over run which can happen when too much rope is spooled out on anchoring. Another advantage – in the event of an electrical failure the drum can be mechanically moved off the drive system to allow the anchor to be deployed. The reliability of the Stress Free is backed up with a 3 year warranty for recreational users.
Those who already own an original Stress Free winch can have the free-fall facility retrofitted – an offer which is currently being snapped up. With the NG Series, the chances of missing your target area are reduced dramatically with your anchor dropping at 10 feet per second.
“The NG Series Stress Free is the ONLY Free Fall drum winch that has Power Up; Power Down and Free Fall features all done from the helm without having to do any adjustments to the winch in a confined anchor well.

Opal and your outboard
As the Top End fishing season ramps up, the fishing community will notice the addition of the new and improved Opal fuel to service stations across Kakadu.
Opal fuel is a direct substitute for regular unleaded with an octane rating of 91 which fully conforms to the National Fuels Quality Standards Act 2000.
Independent laboratory and field testing have found that Opal fuel is safe for use in boats and cars where the manufacturer recommends regular unleaded 91.
The Australian Government, through the Department of Health and Ageing, is supporting the rollout of Opal fuel to the Kakadu National Park.
The cost of Opal fuel will be subsidised by the Government meaning that it will not cost the consumer any more to fill up with Opal fuel than regular unleaded petrol.
Opal fuel was developed by BP Australia to reduce the incidence of petrol sniffing in communities at risk. Petrol sniffing is a highly dangerous form of substance abuse and destroys lives and communities.
In March Opal fuel sponsored the invitational Barramundi competition Kakadu Klash ’11, which was hosted at Aurora Kakadu. Most of the 105 competitors ran the new and improved Opal fuel through their outboards without any issues.
